Pécharmant wines
Château Terre Vieille is a family wine estate at Saint-Sauveur, about ten minutes from Bergerac, on land that once belonged to the philosopher Maine de Biran. Pierre and Fleur Morand-Monteil make red wines under the AOP Pécharmant appellation and cuvées under IGP Périgord. The wines are sold in the estate's tasting room and through an online shop.

The producer and the place
The estate was founded in 1989 by Gérôme and Dolores Morand-Monteil on the former domaine de Grateloup, once owned by the philosopher Maine de Biran, where they planted the vineyard. The first vintage dates from 1992, the 1991 harvest having been destroyed by frost. In 2019 their son Pierre took over the estate, joined by his wife Fleur, who, among other things, looks after visitors. The buildings form an eighteenth-century farmstead built of flint. The tasting room displays the knapped flints that Gérôme Morand-Monteil unearthed while working the soil in the 1980s, tools dating from 300,000 to 16,000 years ago.
What they produce
The vineyard covers some fifteen hectares, mostly on iron-rich red clay, known locally as tran, mixed with flint. The AOP Pécharmant reds blend merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon, sometimes with malbec: Chevalier, aged in vats, Château Terre Vieille, aged in French oak barrels, Ambroisie, made since 2000, and Pantagruel, created in 2020 by Pierre and Fleur. Divin, under IGP Périgord, comes as a red and a rosé. Alongside them are a dry chenin blanc aged in terracotta eggs and an extra brut rosé made by the traditional method. The Bergerac, Rosette and Monbazillac whites sold at the estate are a selection made by the winegrower.
At the château
The estate receives visitors on its own premises at Saint-Sauveur: guided tastings with no appointment needed, every day in July and August and Monday to Saturday the rest of the year, at the hours it publishes; free picnicking in the park; food and wine pairings and group meals by reservation. It delivers to homes in mainland France and hosts wedding eve and day-after gatherings at the estate. A delivery to the château, or a gathering at the estate, is arranged directly with Pierre and Fleur Morand-Monteil: they set their own terms and invoice you themselves.
